The Prioress’ Tale is an original, one-of-a-kind art doll tableau created by artist Deborah Mackie, inspired by Edward Burne-Jones’ painting of the same name.
The subject of this painting is drawn from Chaucer’s Prioress’ Tale. The story is of a teenaged boy who was martyred for singing songs of praise to the Virgin Mary. At his death the Virgin placed grain of wheat on his tongue which miraculously allowed him to continue singing.
