  Artist Bio

Formally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, artist Deb Mackie also brings to the art of miniatures a background in theatrical set and costume design. The journey into dollmaking began with her desire to include realistic figures in her award-winning 1:12 scale dioramas. Not satisfied with the limited poses and facial expressions of available commercial molds, she began to look for alternatives. Inspired by the work of James Carrington, she attended one of his workshops, which gave her the confidence she needed to begin creating her own figures.

Deb Mackie is a member of the Professional Doll Makers Art Guild, the First State Miniature Club and the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME). She was recently awarded the status of Artisan in the International Guild of Miniature Artisans. She is also guest curator and exhibitor for the Delaware Art Museum’s annual Masterpieces in Miniature exhibition. Her work has been featured in American Miniaturist magazine, and has won numerous awards, including First, Second, and Best in Show in the Philadelphia Flower Show miniature settings. Her dolls have been purchased by private collectors worldwide.

All my figures are individually hand-sculpted in 1:12 scale from polymer clay. They are lovingly painted using Genesis heat set oils, costumed in the finest fabrics and wigged with English Viscose or Tibetan lamb hair. No commercial molds are used—each is a one-of-a-kind creation. Interested buyers may purchase directly online, or contact me at mare@whitehorsestudio.com. Commissions accepted.
