 Meg Brockie

Meg Brockie

Meg Brockie is a character from Lerner & Lowe's Broadway musical "Brigadoon." She's a Scottish dairy maid with a "taste for gentlemanly companionship," ie; the town floosie.

Meg was inspired by a costume I wore when I played her part in Footlighters 1998 production of Brigadoon.

It was just awful. It had a denim bodice, with a navy overskirt that didn't quite match, trimmed with obnoxious giant purple ric-rac. Top it off with a purple cotton skirt without a stitch of tartan, and well...you be the judge. It's pictured in the last two detail shots below.

So the Meg figure you see here is wearing the costume as it would have looked if I'd been allowed to sew it myself! Now that's a proper Scottish wench.
