  About the Artist

International Guild of Miniature Artisans

Deb Mackie’s artistic experience began early in life, with her Dad’s model trains, Mother’s terrariums, Grandmother’s leather craft, and an innate passion for horses and gardening. As an adult, she has enjoyed growing bonsai, and is an accomplished theatrical set and costume designer. Elements of these influences are often evident in her award-winning dioramas and miniatures.

Deb was awarded “Artisan” status in the International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) in 2008. Her specialty is 1:12 scale human figures, animals and leather items. She has taught workshops in doll making, model horse customizing, and leather craft at miniature shows throughout the US, and also at the IGMA Guild School.

Her work has been featured in magazines including American Miniaturist (she wrote several articles and how-to pieces), Miniature Collector, Dollhouse Miniatures and Dolls House World. She was curator of the Delaware Art Museum’s Masterpieces in Miniature exhibition for several years. She has won numerous awards including "Best in Show" for her miniature settings dioramas in the annual Philadelphia Flower Show. Her work has been purchased by collectors worldwide.

Deb lives on a small farm in Elkton, Maryland with five cats, two horses, one ornery donkey and one husband.

Ride The White Horse

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse...*

The enigmatic White Horse is a symbol of light, life and spiritual illumination, and also a conveyor of death, destruction and judgement. To me, he is inspiration from the Gods, and the bearer of dreams. I first encountered him as a child in Margaret Cabell Self's "Treasury of Horse Stories." The color plate illustration of Pegasus is well worn from many return trips to fly along with him. Come, ride the White Horse with me.
